Can you help me out?

I'm feeling so down today. I know I shouldn't but I just do. I cant find a job and nothings seems to be working out for me. I don't know where to turn next. AHHHHH!! Why does life have to be so hard sometimes? Anyway, here is my new endeavor to try and get some money coming in and I need all of your help....

Here are my thoughts (inspired by my wonderful best friend Carrie)....

I am thinking of cleaning other people's houses. I am good at cleaning and organizing..in fact I like doing other peoples houses more then my own so why not try to make some money off of it and I NEED to have money coming in SOON for goodness sake.

So I went online and am going to print up some cute little business cards so that I can pass them out to people and advertise myself but I need help with a slogan. Can you all help me because I am not savvy when it comes to thinking of cutesy names.

Here is what the business card will look like....what should my business name be and what would be a cute short slogan for under my business name. I'm counting on you all.

I know I just blogged last night but this morning I just really wanted to cover it up. LOL

You could put a slogan on the card that says "Exceptional residential and commercial cleaning services"

Ok, this may sound a little cheesy, but I like it. You could call your business Sassy Sweepers. The card is really cute. I have lots of friends who clean houses and make decent money. I thought about doing it once and I had come up with Sassy Sweepers or The Sassy Sweeper!! Good luck thinking of a name!!!

you should call your business "good clean fun"

My mom started cleaning houses after she and my dad divorced. It was great because she could work it around our school schedules. Plus a lot of her clients didn't mind if my brother and I came with her. There was one family that had a great pool so we had a ton of fun, plus many of the families had little kids which ended up being babysitting jobs for me.

I will try and think of a name and get back to you!

I love these ideas. Keep em coming, and the "good clean fun" made me crack up...I love it. I can print these business cards on my computer for free...but I have no ink. GRRR!! And Walgreen's doesn't refill my cannon cartridges. Time to brain storm.

I've been cleaning houses for about a year now. I started the same way you are going to do. I just want to let you know to be careful. I've refused a few homes before because they were full of roaches. If those nasty little eggs stick in your shoes...then those nasty little egg will hatch in your house!! Also, please go with someone to give "quotes" because it's not always the smartest thing going into someone's home alone when you know nothing about them. It's sad to think like that, but unfortunately that's the world we live in. I actually stopped advertising & I'm only willing to clean those that come by word-of-mouth. I'm certainly not making much money like this, but I'd much rather be safe than sorry. Good luck to you!!

What ever you do, try to make yourself sound like more than a maid! Give yourself a title like "Domestic Organization Specialist" This will give people the idea that you are on the same level as the people on the tv shows that come in and fix the mess. You can call your cleaning services "Maintaining" after your initial clean out. :D You may even be able to charge a little more than the "merry Maids"

I cleaned houses and it paid well. I advertised in the smaller papers as it was cheaper and see if you can put a flyer and business cards up in a hospital breakroom or something. That is how i got jobs.
Have you checked out any temp agencies for work? There are many different agencies that focus on different kinds of help. I have had friends that got jobs through them with temp to hire positions.
good luck

How about "Mommy keeps it clean" Cleaning Service...

And... have you heard of Vista Print?

You can get SO MUCH stuff for free such as business cards, t shirts, brochures, postcards, cardoor magnets, pens, etc. All you do is pay shipping. They have a ton of templates to choose from and we have used them for several years for our MOPS group.

If you don't see a supply you want for free, wait a few days and it should be on the special of free things.

Here is the link:

just a thought ... have you tried creating a profile and looking on www.care.com? It has child care, cleaning, house-sitting, tutoring, all sorts of jobs. I was able to post my profile and find a job in less than 2 weeks. I've used it to find several jobs, and I still get people contacting me ASKING me to work for them. Hope this helps.

I Need A Wife Cleaning Services -
Let Me Take Care of Your House So That You Can Enjoy Your Kids

I don't know how many times as a working mother to five kids, I said "I wish I had a Wife to Take Care of My House While I Work"

Eventually, I hired someone to do just that. She came to my home during the day while I worked and did child care and house keeping. We kept that arrangement for three years until all of my kids were in school.

How come you dont go back to daycare? I see this as a more vital service in this type of economy. People have to have someone watch their child while they work. I just fear that people cannot afford the luxury of having someone else clean their house. It might be one of the first services cut from their budget since it is not a necessity for people struggling to make ends meet.

Rebekah. Have you applied at temp agencies? I know that temp jobs aren't what you want for the long run, but usually temp positions become full time if the employer likes you and has a need for you?

And I agree with being careful. If you can start by asking friends, family and church family to spread the word for you that would be safest. Good luck!

This idea could work out great but make sure you ask for what you are worth!!! It's a business so remember that :) And you and your services are worth a lot!!!!! Sorry I don't have any names on the tip of my tongue- have to think about that...love the good, clean fun one, though.

Routing for you from Chicago!!

Hmmm...
Domestic Goddess Cleaning
Suck It Up Cleaning Service

Personally, I like the latter.

I agree with others who said to start with your friends, family and church. Safety means way more than money, to you and to your kids.

I really hope you find something/create something soon that works for you. I know how stressful this kind of thing can be.
God bless.

"I clean for 4, what's 1 more?"!!

Cleaning is a great idea! I agree with the person who suggested Vist Print. They have great deals!

I would start with word of mouth and do estimates first. Start with a good cleaing and then organizing later. Have you considered working for a cleaning company first and then going out on your own. I did that so I could learn how a "real" cleaning did it, so that I would know how when I did my own jobs. I really learned a lot and made great friends in the process. I also learned that cleaning services had a high turnover, so you have a good chance of being hired by a professional maid service tomorrow.
Good luck!

I too, would recommend care.com

I hired my daycare worker, and many people that I contacted on there had already been hired and were no longer available.

Also, have you considered schooling? Depending on your situation, govt cash assistance in the form of TAFT (which, when enrolled full time does not doc from the 60 month lifetime limit you are allowed to partake in the program and school fulfills work requirements) could help in addition to covering daycare while you are in school, food stamps/medicaid, and typically a woman in your situation wouldn't pay a DIME towards tuition and books. SCHOOLING, a degree, could become a career and change your life forever, rather than "just a job". Consider it....and ask your Department of Human Services for guidance.

How about Clean Sweep?

My vote is for "Good Clean Fun" or "Clean Sweep". I also would check out care.com, that sounds like a winner!! Whatever path you choose I will be praying for you.

I'm going to forward this info to my sister who lives in the same town you do. See if she knows any one who might be interested.
