Three o'clock in the morning!! UPDATED!!

Things are not looking good. He has been sick for two months, I am sure this is just another symptom of his body not being able to let go of this cold. He hasnt had an ear infection since he was three months old. I am so frusterated. I CANT miss work...yet I CANT let my son go in pain for the day. Im in tears right now. GRRRRRRR!!!

Its three o'clock in the morning and I have been up with Skyler and an ear ache. He is nearly in tears he is hurting so bad. I cant find a single urgent care open this time of the night and I dont think its appropriate to go to the emergency room for an ear ache. I just cant miss work tomorrow. Sometimes this single mom stuff is a little much to bear. I need HELP tonight!!!!!!!

Go to your nearest health food store and get some sweet oil. Warm it in a glass of hot water. Put a few drops in his ear. My grandfather used to do that for my brothers and I. It really does work. If there is infection it wont cure the infection...but it will ease the pain until you can get him to the doc. Prayers!!! Mollie (ohio)

Sorry. My son had earaches when he was little and it was awful. All they want to do when they are little is to be held - or at least mine did. Hope it gets better soon for you.

I know it's been a while since you posted, but if nothing is still open - try an oil infused with garlic (boil together for 5-10 min). Then strain the garlic out and let it cool. Dropper in the affected ear - you can also rub it in around the ear.
This is just something that has worked for us, I am not a medical professional or anything - I hope that he is feeling better soon!

I've heard the garlic oil thing too. I'm sorry you are having this prob. And I can kinda relate as my hub is a truck driver and usually he's gone for those sort of things. (Like the time when I was 8 mos pregnant and suffering from extreme pain - later found out kidney stones - at 3am. Had to call my brother to come put all 3 kids in the car for me, and then drive myself to the ER.) I totally get not taking them to teh ER for that, though. Our ER co-pay is $150 so it's a real incentive to suffer it out til 8am. Motrin/ibuprofen and tylenol. You can give them both at the same time. That helps. Though I'm sure you figured it out by now. ((hugs))

Oh, and have you tried giving him vit's to boost his system? Nature Made has a pretty good chewable C that my (little) kids like. It seems to help. No flu or serious cold all fall, so far. *knock on wood*

My mom used to blow the hair dryer in my brother's ear when it hurt...it seemed to work...aside from being noisy.

Aww... I'm sorry it has been so long since I stopped by. I am in the busy season at work and probably wopn't have "me" time til Christmas. But I checked in today, and wanted to give you a HUG. Sophie used to get those earaches and fevers in the middle of the night. Being a single mom with a sick baby is seriously the worst. Hope he is feeling better! Be strong!!!

Go to a health food store and pick up some garlic oil ear drops. That always works for when we have ear infection.

Ugh, I've had earaches, they suck! There is no pain like it. Try holding a blow dryer near his ear, home remedy that is supposed to help. That sucks, hope he gets better soon, and your work will understand!! Family first, always!

My son from 7 months to over a year was having them about 1 a month...it was horrible. He has only gotten a few since he was 18 months but they still are horrible and you feel so helpless until the meds kick in giving them some relief.

So when Cam use to have all his ear infections they gave him numbing drops at the dr, it helped relieve the pain until the tylenol/motrin kicked in. The pediatrician also told me that if you don't have the numbing drops you can use ambesol (the teeth numbing stuff) as it will do the same thing. I haven't had to try it since Cam seems to have grown out of his ear infections, thank goodness.
